Steve McNair and the 4th of july

Just a few thoughts about today:

Steve McNair, I didnt know him, but the events surrounding his death seem to be quite sad.  Starting off, dying and leaving a wife and 4 kids behind is the definition fo the word “suck” as is.  But the fact that the early reports say that he was downtown in a rented apt. with a woman other than his wife is going to make this even worse.

Sometimes I hate even being associated with being male.  Dude mentality is so dumb.  Now, I know we arent 100% sure Steve was cheating on his wife, but it does not look promising.  Ill give him the benefit of a doubt.  But all in all, men are complete idiots most of the time.  I have the benefit of having great parents who taught me what being a man should be.  Does that mean Im perfect? No.  My weakness is my temper.  I do know, however, how to be humble enough to see my weaknesses and try to learn from them.

July 4th, this day is set aside to remember our independence.  As i look back at the history of our road to independence i see it littered with lies and blood.  Does this mean that i dont believe in a just war?  I do believe in a time to take up arms in the defense of whats right and just.  Do I think thats what happened in the case of the American Indian?  No.  We were being persecuted for our beliefs (I say we only in the widest of relations to the founding fathers, cause my family came here cause we ran out of potatoes in Ireland) in England and decided to force our way into someone else country and declare it ours.  In the later years we wrote up bad treaties and shorted a whole race its right to land and peace.  Do i think we should hand it all back and move back?  No.  The thought line that a generation separated by hundreds of years from a previous generation and its wrongdoings should be held accountable is ridiculous.  We, as Americans, should learn by the mistakes of our forefathers and make this world/country/state/city/road/house a better place.
