So, it has been a few moons since i last spoke to you. Some new developments have come up since those heady days. As you can tell in my photo to the left i trimmed up my mountain man beard to the point that it looks more like the middle-aged-school-teacher length. The reason for my dance with the razor is the fact that I got a new job. I will be talking a bit more about that a little further down, but its super mecha awesome to say the very least. Speaking of, I got some new work shoes. Now, i usually dont enjoy Nike shoes due to their labor practices and the fact that Adidas, Puma, New Balance and Saucony are all better made shoes.
But i found these at Marty and Liz’s (a second hand shoe store in Murfreesboro) for $35. Cant beat the style for the price and the fact that they feel comfy on my diabetic feet doesnt hurt either. Neon yellow, Dark Turquoise, White and Black are a nice combo too. I am, if you dont already know this, a shoe hound. I love my foot wear. Its one of my pseudo-gay atributes. (Others being the fact that I get giddy over furniture and I can’t get enough effeminate dance music in my life. Yes, I do dance with my arms above my head at times). Anyway, I felt compelled to buy them. Fasion and function all in one package.
Tonight my brother is playing in a full band version of his afore seen two piece, Brontosaurus. Its at a coffe shop (with free coffee) called Bonhoeffer’s. Starts at 8pm and is located at: 610 dill lane Murfreesboro, TN. Noah (my brother) has been writing music for over 10 years. He’s had three bands. Started out as Yennis Pinwheel (yeah, awesome name) which was a pop-punk band, then developed into an in indie-pop band called The Roosevelts. The Roosevelts had some semi-big success in almost all the areas they played but here in Murfreesboro. Thats unfortuantely the story of alot of bands around here though. The Roosevelts broke up a few years ago and Noah decided that with marriage and baby makin’ he should cut down on the touring and full band stuff for a while and started Brontosaurus as an acoustic solo, mainly online, project. Lisa Higgs brought a Rentals-esque female background vocal to his music and they started to record and play out. About a year ago Noah started to talk about putting together a band again. Well, tonight will bring that idea to fruition. Ive been sitting in on the practices and you really dont want to miss this. It’ll be enjoyable to anyone who knows good pop music.
Speaking of music, here are a few bands that I’ve heard lately that should be given some heed to:
- Albert Hammond Jr.
- Barcelona
- Passion Pit
- Richard Swift
- Ra Ra Riot
- Crystal Castles
- The Virgins
As I said above, I got a new job. Its with a company called Southern Hobby. No, its not all just NASCAR and Guns.. although we do deal a little with the racing. Mainly I sell and deliver RPG source books, European style boardgames, trading cards (sport and fantasy), figures (sport and fantasy), dice and loads of other super geeky things. It boils down to this:
- Call stores who buy from us and get orders (Monday and Tuesday)
- Drive down to the stores (Ive got an Atlanta area route) and deliver product and talk about new product. (Wednesday)
- Drive back, stopping in on a few more stores and doing the same thing I did Wednesday. (Thursday)
- 2 or 3 hours of paperwork on Friday.
- Off every Saturday and Sunday.
Yes, this job is cooler than yours. No, we dont have any openings. When we do have openings, they are promised to my wife, Ian and Trotter.
Well, thats it for now. If you’d like me to write about anything else, pelase let me know.
-Uncle Bucket
